This film is a point at which multiple parallal practices reconvene. It connects the disciplines of painting and video, two disciplines I feel reside close together in my practice. It continues from ‘Cloak’ and ‘A New Screen’ in terms of process, and harvests material from previous video works in an act of reincorporation. I delight in the way it consolidates traditional materials with contemporary digital processes. The work includes performative elements, but can ultimately only exist in the format of video. Just as the paintbrush is an extension of the body, the computer is an extension of the mind. The work only functions within a reality which has been augmented. Colours become purely functional signifiers; to be replaced by variations on static. After the performed actions have been recorded, the physical painting is a waste byproduct which can be destroyed, discarded, repainted.
